What is a retro theme party?
A retro theme party can mean many different things to different people.
To some it might mean a throwback party to their favorite decade, such as the 70’s or the 80’s (or even the hippy/flower power dress of the 60’s).
It could also mean something like a 80’s Halloween type party (not necessarily thrown on Halloween) complete with Thriller music and 80’s goth/punk dress.

However, three things you need to consider when throwing a Retro Theme Party. You need a little info about your anticipated guests.
- How old are they?
- What are their musical or fashion tastes?
- Do they seem interested in a throwback party?
All of these things need to be considered when throwing a theme party. You certainly don’t want to throw a Madonna-style party only to find out that the guests’ tastes run the conservative gamut.
How old are they?
Depending on the type of party you’re throwing (say a wedding or just a graduation), it can be fairly hard to know the age of your guests. A wedding would be much harder to throw simply because not everyone is going to care about the same decade.
Musical/Fashion Tastes
This is just as important as age. People’s taste in music and fashion run the gamut, however if they’re approximately the same age then you can incorporate different styles in your party.
Throwback Party – Do they want one?
If you throw it, they will come. This is partly true, but you’ve got to remember that some people might not want to have a toga-style wedding.
Perhaps you could have a traditional-style wedding for the traditional types and a mock wedding later for the “hipsters.”
