Using Purple and Blue Nail Polish Conservatively

13 Nov

If you are tired of wearing the same reds and pinks on your nails day after day, it’s time to switch things up a little. Sure, you’ve noticed some exotic colors on other people but you never thought you could pull these shades off yourself so you’ve never even tried. But the truth is that a surprising number of people are able to wear shades of blue and green without looking like they are begging for attention.

Purple and blue nail polish are great starting points for people looking to branch out with their nail colors. That’s because these shades are available in so many different variations that you are sure to find one that is on the conservative side. In particular, purple is an excellent choice because of the red component which ties it heavily to the traditional polish shades. Now, the purpose is to try new horizons so don’t scramble for the magenta when you’re buying purples. Instead, you might opt for a soft lilac that is matte. This is a color that looks great on most skin tones but is definitely not your usual red or pink.

Although blue might sound too adventurous for you, it actually depends a lot on which shade of blue you use. Not all blues have to be screaming midnight glitter shades. There are plenty of subtle blues that look fantastic. These shades aren’t always easy to find so you might have to look in a beauty supply store. A color like periwinkle is a great first foray into blue polishes. A sky blue is another color that is definitely distinctive but won’t make you stand out too much in the crowd.

The key to keeping these colors conservative is watching what you pair them with. A glittery color shouldn’t be paired with any type of glitter on your face, although a subtle sheen using a highlighter like Benefit High Beam can help you if your skin looks too matte. If you’re going with dark or sparkly shades, you should make sure your nails aren’t too long if you don’t want to draw too much attention to yourself.

The first time you wear a new color, you might want to do a trial run on your toes first. This helps you get used to the idea but it’s easy enough to cover up if you decide you’re just not comfortable with these colors. It also gives you a few days to decide if you like the shade you’ve chosen up against your skin tone. Also, remember that once you put on a shade, if you decide it’s not for you, you can simply paint a more traditional color right on top of it.
