Your daughter is getting married, so now you need to start looking through the selection of mother of the bride outfits This is a decision that will have to be taken very seriously the only outfit that gets scrutinized more heavily than yours is the bride’s. Most likely you will probably be wearing some type of dress although depending on your style and the level of formality a nice pants suit may be an option. A dress is an item of clothing consisting of a skirt with an attached bodice or with a matching bodice giving the effect of one-piece. There are many styles of dress to choose from:
• Gown, a woman’s full-length elegant or formal dress for special occasions. General design includes a fitted or tight bodice and a straight or full skirt. Could be worn at a banquet, an opera, or a wedding.
• Cocktail dress, a short party dress, with a semiformal design, as its name indicates it is worn at cocktail parties but if the wedding is less formal it could be a good choice.
• Dinner dress, there was a time when people “dressed for dinner” and women often wore a “dinner dress” and men wore tuxedos or dinner jackets. The dinner dress was as fancy as a ball gown, but generally had a much narrower skirt.
• Evening dress, a long dress for black-tie evening parties.
• Prom dress, a formal dress, worn to a formal dance for high-school, usually held at the end of the school year known as a prom. Probably not a first choice when it comes to mother of the bride outfits.
• Ball gown, a full-length formal dress suitable for wearing to a ball usually with a full skirt designed for dancing. Proper etiquette calls for this type of dress to be worn only to white-tie occasions. So if the wedding is white tie this could be an option.
• Coronation gown, formal wear for coronations, so unless your daughter is being crowned queen on her wedding day probably not appropriate.
• Wedding dress, the gown your daughter will be wearing.
